The average length of a baseball game has increased by more than an hour, from 2 hours and 33 minutes in 1980 to 3 hours and 44 minutes in 2016. The number of pitches thrown in a typical game has also increased, from about 145 in 1980 to about 150 in 2016. WebMLB has been wishy-washy about the baseball the last few years. In 2024, a study found the ball changed sometime around the 2015 All-Star break, leading to more homers. MLB commissioned its own study, which found the ball was not changed intentionally.
