How does molecular shape affect enzyme action
WebDec 18, 2016 · At high temperatures, the weak hydrogen bonds holding the enzyme in a 3-D shape start to break, and the enzyme denatures. At very low temperatures, the molecule becomes rigid and cannot undergo the necessary conformational changes it needs to in order to catalyze a reaction. WebHigher temperatures are more likely to increase enzyme activity's effect, while lower temperatures will decrease enzyme reaction rate. Higher temperatures result in more molecules colliding, which increases the likelihood that an enzyme collides with its substrate. The enzyme cannot bind to its substrate if it changes in shape.
